Alcohol Use and Bystander Intervention for Sexual Violence
Research Team: Kevin Swartout & Dominic Parrott (co-PIs)
Summary: examine how social norms and individual level factors influence bystander behavior for SA among undergraduate men. Ultimately, these data will directly inform existing bystander prevention interventions that aim to teach men how to intervene in order to prevent a peer’s perpetration of a sexual assault.
Using Social Marketing to Engage Teen Bystanders to Prevent Dating Violence
Research Team: Laura F. Salazar, Kevin Swartout, Shannon Self-Brown
Summary: The proposed study was to develop and test an innovative bystander educational social marketing campaign designed to raise awareness of teen dating violence and increase teens’ knowledge and skills for safe and effective bystander intervention techniques. The social marketing campaign was to target multiple levels and incorporate several components: community outreach using teens and engaging community stakeholders, traditional mass media and social media tools such as Face book, Twitter and YouTube to push intervention messages and content into the community.
